There was a time when nobody bothered about how heavy a structure was and usually engineering structures were over-built. These days engineers are more cautious.

BLOODHOUND SSC must be as light as possible if the thrust is to propel it to record speeds in the short time available. It must also be very strong to withstand the extreme pressure from air resistance.

The ideas are suitable for KS3 and KS4 science when looking at forces in structures.
