BLOODHOUND SSC unit of work |
Model rocket motors are the ideal way to propel model cars across the playground. Build your own and explore the effect of drag on its performance. Bloodhound engineers are working on ways of reducing drag and designing a shape which will ensure that BLOODHOUND SSC stays on the ground and is able to reach 1000 mph.
This is a cross curricular task. The design and build would be followed by timing and analysis. The rocket motors are sold with different impulses (thrust times time) enabling exploration of performance with different mass cars and different rocket engines.
Maths, science and technology departments could all be involved through focusing on the different skills required.
