Latest Car news
As you’ll have seen at BLOODHOUND Expo, if you were lucky enough to attend, the parts for the Car are nearly complete, but we still have some work left to do:
- We have amended the design of the Titanium steering wheel to allow for the way that it will be ‘grown’ during the 3D printing process. This new design has been tested and completed at Renishaw and is looking very good.
- New parts have arrived for the pump, following the challenges we have previously seen with this part of the Car. The rear bearing carrier and retainer will let us validate our new design and start water testing the pump before we gear up for rocket firings powered by the Jaguar supercharged V8 engine.
Andy Green’s Diary
As it gets closer to race year, BLOODHOUND driver Andy Green has been thinking seriously about exactly what he will do when he gets in the cockpit for the first time to drive the Car, and has been writing himself some Driver's Notes. Find out what is in those notes in Andy Green's latest diary entry.
The Technical Centre opens its doors
Following on from the unveiling of the Car in London in September, the Technical Centre opened its doors to several groups in the last couple of weeks. A well-attended sponsors’ conference was followed by a 1K Club Open Day, two very busy days of rocket car workshops (see below) and a public day which saw 600 visitors – with everyone getting the chance to see the Car before it’s disassembled and enters the final build phase ready for UK runway testing next Easter.
Watch out for more events at the BTC in future!
Rocket car experience
Over school half term week 80 families visited the BLOODHOUND Technical Centre for one of our exciting Rocket Car Experiences. During the day, which was aimed at children aged 5–15, they enjoyed a talk about the science behind the Car and a tour of the vehicle itself before putting the theory into practise by designing, building and racing their own model rocket cars. Powered by an A class ESTES rocket motor, their cars reached speeds of up to 35mph as they zipped down a wire stretched across our yard. We’ll be running these days again later this year, so stay tuned for dates.
If you’d like your children’s school to get involved, please contact our Education team.
BLOODHOUND goes to the seaside
In mid-September the BLOODHOUND show car and Events Team supported the Great Yarmouth WHEELS Festival. In a large marquee only a few feet from the beach many thousands of people in Norfolk were able to experience the BLOODHOUND Project for the first time. Peter Harrison, a Norfolk Ambassador and an organiser of the Festival, reports on the exciting weekend.

Only Santa drives faster than Andy Green!
It doesn’t take much to work out that Father Christmas has to drive his sleigh incredibly fast to deliver all our presents at Christmas. In fact, we think he might be the only person to have ever driven faster than Andy Green!
So, how about giving someone in your family a present that will travel almost as fast as Santa? You can, by putting their name on BLOODHOUND’s fin. Add their name (or yours!) before the Christmas rush and in 2016 it will travel faster than the speed of sound. Now that’s a truly magical present.
Support BLOODHOUND by buying online
It may seem a long time till Christmas, but now is a good time to start stocking up on presents for both adults and children in our online shop, ahead of race year.
We’ve got a brilliant range of clothes for every age, which will have extra kudos in 2016 when the Car runs for the first time.
We’ve also got our fantastic K’Nex toys, including the model of BLOODHOUND (£20), the classic Corgi model car (£10), plus stocking fillers such as hats, caps, scarves, badges, mugs, water bottles and the ever popular balloon car (£2).
