Experience BLOODHOUND’s world debut in London - FREE!
BLOODHOUND will make its world debut in London on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September – and you can be there to see it! The Car will be presented in its record attempt configuration but without the carbon fibre and titanium bodywork on one side, in order to show its inner workings. Visitors will see 98% of the Car, including the Rolls-Royce EJ200 jet engine in place as it will be when BLOODHOUND targets 800mph in 2016, as well as the supercharged Jaguar V8 engine that will be used to pump oxidiser into the rocket. Put your name on the fin and WIN!
The BLOODHOUND project is funded by sponsorship and donations from individual members of the public through to global corporations. Every last bit of money raised goes towards helping us create something special, with a lasting legacy of inspiration for our future generation of scientists and engineers. There’s still time for you to put your name on our fin from just £15 and see it go supersonic! We’ve almost reached 30,000 names – if your name is number 30,000 you will win the opportunity to join us at an exclusive evening showing of the Car on 24 September in London, where you will meet the BLOODHOUND team and see the Car before the general public (terms and conditions apply – see the website).
Can you print a 3D car?
While putting together BLOODHOUND for its display later this month, the team added new 3D printed carbon parts to the Car. These are the runway auxiliary air intakes which channel air into the rear chassis to cool the rocket pump system and the underside of the EJ200. The parts were produced from carbon in a 3D printer by Graphite AM Ltd using a process known as selective laser sintering (SLS). Although you couldn’t print every part of a car like BLOODHOUND, other parts – such as the steering wheel and nose cone – have already been 3D printed, producing accurate components more quickly and simply, with very little waste.
Join in the model rocket car challenge
Guinness World Records and BLOODHOUND are inviting teams from around the world to take part in an international record-breaking challenge with the aim of achieving a prestigious Guinness World Records title for the Fastest Rocket-Powered Model Car, inspired by the BLOODHOUND Project. Entrants need to design and build a self-powered model car or truck that must be propelled by a rocket engine.
Just how flat is Hakskeen Pan ?
Running a land speed record car should be easy: find a perfectly flat surface and then all you have to worry about is the aerodynamics of the vehicle. However, in reality, there is no such thing as a perfectly flat surface, anywhere. The closest we can get to ‘flat’ (and large enough) is a dried lake bed surface, so we needed to know how ‘rough’ it was so that we could design the suspension accordingly. Andy Green explains how they measured the surface and what 4 billion sample points showed us.
Download the Castrol EDGE / BLOODHOUND app
Created in collaboration with our sponsor Castrol EDGE, the new BLOODHOUND X-Ray app lets you get under the skin of the Car, access videos about the Project and see how Castrol’s lubricants, brake and hydraulic fluids will be used to enable BLOODHOUND to power to a new World Land Speed Record. Available for iPhone and Android, download it now and join the adventure!

BLOODHOUND in Scotland
Across Scotland’s highlands and islands, Ambassadors John Blacklock and Yetunde Adediran are promoting BLOODHOUND with funding from the IMechE and the British Science Association. At Science festivals and school visits from Inverness to the Orkneys, including Scotland’s first Big Bang@School, children and members of the public have learnt about the BLOODHOUND Project and enjoyed building and racing balloon cars. On November 17, John and Yetunde will launch the BLOODHOUND Model Rocket Car Challenge backed by Guinness World Records to schools in Caithness and Sunderland.
