60 year 8 and 9 girls from schools in SE Cornwall (Torpoint, Saltash, Callington, Looe and Liskeard)  took part in a day of interactive activities to raise their awareness of engineering careers- all run by women engineers and scientists at Saltash College.  The girls rotated around three exciting and interactive workshops BLOODHOUND SSC, Creepy Crawly Robots and Wind Energy - all designed to engage and enthuse them and open their eyes to the possibilities of a careers in engineering and science.  Also on hand to help out were women STEM Ambassadors and Plymouth University.

The event was part of a national project funded by the Department of Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) called the SW Gender Equality Project aimed at increasing gender equality and challenging gender stereotyping in pupils' subject choices.

'This was a wonderful opportunity for the girls to find out more about the varied careers in within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and to work with inspirational role models" said Helen Field from Cornwall Learning's Education Business Partnership, who organised the event.
