Special BLOODHOUND SSC Leaders Award 2011

Education News
Sunday, 31 October, 2010

We are pleased to announce the 2010- 2011 BLOODHOUND SSC Special Primary Secondary & Advanced  Leaders Award for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

The Award is FREE to all between the ages of 5 - 19 years and gives young people the fantastic opportunity to speak directly to professionals from STEM backgrounds.

The BLOODHOUND SSC Special Leaders Award is an interactive way to increase young people’s awareness of the breadth of opportunities open to them within the STEM subjects. It helps to develop vital literacy and communication skills and gives the students a chance to speak directly with professionals from different fields in STEM, opening their aspirations.

The award is in two simple steps:

  • Firstly, we invite students to introduce themselves via a letter of application (guidance notes are available on the www.leadersaward.com website). What future career paths are they aiming towards? Who has inspired them?
  • Students then link up with the Scientists, Technologists, Engineers and Mathematicians of today where they will have the unique and fabulous opportunity to interview a professional in their chosen area. In an academic year, many interviews can be conducted - there is no limit ... the more questions asked the better!

We aim to build understanding and spark imaginations!

To enter for this special award, the interview that accompanies the application should have a specific dimension – inspiration. This is their chance to discover career opportunities and to gather real information from the source.

Be inspired!

The person to interview can be absolutely anybody who has a career in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics. What does their career involve? What did they want to be when they were younger? We are promoting innovation and individuality.

The chosen interviews:

Three students, one from each age group, will be chosen to visit ‘The Dog House’ - the centre in Bristol where the BLOODHOUND SSC car is to be built. Here they will have the priceless opportunity to spend a day with the engineers. They will also receive Gold BLOODHOUND SSC memberships so that they can follow this inspirational project from the inside!

Runners up in all three levels will receive Bronze Memberships. Additionally, you’re interview could get the chance of being published on the BLOODHOUND SSC, Leaders Award and related industry and education websites and publications.

Don't miss out on your chance. Visit the Leaders Award website for more information and how to register.

Deadline for Leaders Award letters of application and interviews: 31st May 2011. All applications will be acknowledged, however late entries cannot be accepted. Please email entries to ensure they arrive before the deadline. Chosen writers will be notified and student names and schools will be published on the Leaders Award website in September 2011.
