The end of September saw the 1K Club launch itself beyond the directly related countries with the first 1K Club Nederland members’ day taking off in Amstelveen, just outside Amsterdam in the Netherlands. This was an opportunity for our supporters abroad to get together and share their passions for the project.
Organised by our Dutch-based BLOODHOUND Ambassadors, the day included a display of newly translated marketing materials explaining the aims of the project, the design of the car and the history of the Land Speed Record. It also provided opportunities to network and socialise over drinks, and a variety of presentations including the latest news on the project as provided by Richard Noble at the third Ambassador’s conference held a week earlier on September 20th in Bristol.
The busiest point in the day was the overview presentation about the BLOODHOUND project, the history of the land speed record and background information on the car itself. Nick Cohn, BLOODHOUND Ambassador, then went on to provide the latest project update, a deep dive into the design and development of the rocket, as well as a general engineering update as given a week earlier by Chief Engineer Mark Chapman in Bristol.
The atmosphere was inviting and members enjoyed sharing their enthusiasm for the record attempt and the fascinating engineering behind the project. Members came from across the country and had a broad range of interests.
Throughout history the Netherlands has played a significant role in invention, discovery and innovation within the sciences, technology and engineering. It seems, therefore, a perfect setting to broaden awareness of the BLOODHOUND project which also aims to push the boundaries of what current technology is capable of, encouraging innovation and advancing record breaking, and which, despite being a global project, is the only effort in the land speed record at this time to be based in Europe. We look forward to continuing with more events in the Netherlands in the near future.
Want to spread the news?
We’re always looking for more BLOODHOUND Ambassadors. Our Ambassadors mainly work with children in schools, clubs, Science Fairs and Big Bang events, but also support us at national events and meetings such as this one in the Netherlands. If you’re interested in spreading the news and enthusing children and adults alike, we’ll train you and give you access to all of our online educational resources.
If you’d like to inspire the next generation then join us – it’s fun and extremely worthwhile. Find out more about becoming an Ambassador.
