The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council’s (EPSRC) goal is to ensure the UK remains world-leading in science and engineering, and that this expertise helps to improve our quality of life, our economic prosperity, and tackles the emerging global challenges we face.
As the main Government agency for funding in this area, we invest around £800 million a year in research and training, including support for more than 9,000 PhD students.
Highly skilled, hugely talented people are at the heart of achieving our goals. Underpinning this is the need to inspire young people to pursue a career in science and engineering. This is why BLOODHOUND SSC is such an important project and why EPSRC is proud to be a founder sponsor.
">As part of the BLOODHOUND SSC project, EPSRC is supporting the aerodynamics research being carried out at Swansea University. This work will be fundamental to the Team’s success. Using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the Team modelled the airflow data that has shaped the car. From the nose to the tail, they have predicted the effect of anything that has any kind of aerodynamic influence. In addition, the Public Engagement Programme at EPSRC is involved in the education and engagement aspects of the Project, through the BLOODHOUND Education Programme.
Ultimately, the success of BLOODHOUND will not be measured in mph, but in how the technology it develops is utilised in the future, in the number of children it inspires to take up engineering and in our ability to tackle global challenges in the decades to come.
Working with iconic engineering projects like BLOODHOUND, EPSRC will ensure the UK remains a world leader in science and engineering.
