An ambitious start to the New Year.  I spent last summer running air operations over Libya, so missed out on our long-planned summer sailing holiday.  As a result, our holiday crew decided to rent a boat and head out over the New Year instead – which was great fun (even in the rain) until the la

Fresh back from supporting Royal Air Force operations over Libya, a holiday seemed like a good idea.  What I did, of course, was something completely different – a 2-week lecture tour of South Africa, which was anything but a rest.

I have just returned from Southern Italy, where I was deployed to run Royal Air Force operations over Libya. It was a hugely successful air campaign which has, I hope given the Libyan people a fantastic chance to determine their own future.

Designing a 1000 mph car is a unique challenge. Where do we start? If we were designing a road car there would be no such problem.

July was another fantastically busy month for the Team and it kicked off with The Goodwood Festival of Speed. This was our third appearance at this unique and massively popular event. We had on display, for the first time, our full rocket propulsion system consisting of a gleaming oxidizer tank, fuel pump, Cosworth CA2010 F1 engine and, of course, Daniel Jubb's mighty hybrid rocket.

It’s all in the Timing

Monday, 16 May, 2011

It’s been another exciting month for Project BLOODHOUND, as we solve a few more of the problems on the way to 1000 mph.  We released another key part of the Project of the public – the ‘Genome’ of the BLOODHOUND SSC, i

The refinement of BLOODHOUND SSC’s design continues.  We are still working on the final stability balance for the Car, looking for the so-called ‘positive yaw static margin’.  In other words, we need to have the aerodynamic centre behind the centre of gravity, so that – just like a dart – the fi

With the chassis now in manufacture, there are a lot of design details that we need to sort out in the next few months.  The most urgent of these is increasing the ‘yaw static margin’.  What’s that when it’s at home?  In very simple terms, it’s making sure that the fin is big enough to keep the

I flew out to Daytona, Florida for the weekend, to act as the ‘Grand Marshal’ for the Rolex Daytona 24 hr race.  The amazing thing was the Americans’ response to BLOODHOUND.  Everyone out there seemed to know about it and were dying to know more.  It even made the racing drivers stop and think w

A Happy New Year to you all.  I don’t know about you, but we’re excited by what the next few months will bring.  After nearly 4 years of planning, research and design, we’re starting to build the world’s first 1000 mph Car.

Thursday, 9 December, 2010

The engineering team remains hugely busy with the detailed design of the Car.  We are still on course to start manufacturing the chassis next month, so there’s a real buzz in the BLOODHOUND Technical Centre down in Bristol.
