Having selected a potentially suitable carbon brake rotor for BLOODHOUND SSC’s hydraulic braking system, the next step is to test spin the selected rotor to the car’s full design speed and see how the material behaves at that speed.

To accomplish this, the design team have produced drawings for a brake rotor spin test assembly and now we need to fabricate this test assembly.

Last week we visited Matthew Lovell at Tool Design & Manufacture (Yate) Ltd – a Bristol-based precision engineering firm that has a quick turn around and rapid prototyping facility. TDM are located close to our design office at UWE and, having completed some work on the build of the APU rig earlier in the year (without actually knowing what they were working on because of project secrecy!), we already knew that they offered a first class service.

The team at TDM have been massively supportive of the BLOODHOUND SSC project and are completing the fabrication of the brake rotor spin test assembly as Product Sponsors.
